Celebrating Moms this March with Mimi+Martha

There's a lot going on this month celebrating all things womanhood and motherhood, with International Women's Day on 8th March and Mother's Day on the 14th March.

And so, we've rounded up some thoughts on mothers, mothering and some gifts and homewares from the collection that we love for moms of all ages/vibes/homes.

Martha: Mimi+Martha crept up on us last year and was surely the Universe giving us a push in the right direction. Here we are now, me and my mother, both of us mothers, running a business together. It's funny how these things come about but it is easy to work alongside your best friend! Mostly!
I think we both know that what we have going on may be a little unusual... People are often a bit shellshocked at the thoughts of Mimi+Martha - thinking straight away about how it might look if they were in business with their own mother. But for us, it has been a way to celebrate us, our family, our passions, our interests, and create a working life that can be kind to us and allow our family lives to inspire and drive our business.

A Day at the Office

Every meeting is punctuated with many requests for snacks, entertainment, searches for missing toys or schoolbooks or socks or sports gear. We are often on a meeting to each other while my son (6) and my sister (7) are on their own meeting of games/art videos and chats.

I asked my son, Oliver, what the best part about me working from home and owning a store was. The list was as follows:

  • Can chat to me when he wants
  • Lunch together
  • He gets to test the toys collection
  • We get to buy delicious food with "all our money" (...)

I'm feeling incredibly grateful to take on this journey with the woman who invented "Mom Goals" - calm and collected and glam AF. And by the way, that's with 5 kids and a grandkid!

Mimi: I've been having the best time since Martha and I embarked on the creation of  Mimi+Martha, realising long-held dreams of combining my passions for family, interiors, gifting, design and creating a career in this space.

Working alongside Martha is a very natural process as we are very much in tune with each other, even with different skill sets, tastes, and lifestyles - this really adds to the diversity of the collections and the scope of projects on the horizon for us at Mimi+Martha.

Owning a store like this has been a long term ambition that saw me through many years in the tech industry and much learning, training and absorbing every piece of information I could get my hands on, and my head around in the world of design and interiors.

When we started talking about the concept last year, we couldn't have known that we would achieve so much inside 12 months and be celebrating Mothers Day as business partners this year.

Family and Grá is always in the mix for us, with our daily schedules working around school drop off and pick ups, homework, meals, projects, and all that comes with a bustling family life!

Mothers Day is always a perfect excuse for us to get together and celebrate the role being mothers plays in our lives, the lovely kids we get to mother, and the extended mom's and mom figures in our lives from nana to aunts, to god mothers, and those who are like a mom, we love the sense of celebration and grá that comes with the occasion and we are always happy to embrace and share that!
